The choice on the 8th June

Date Filed:  Tuesday, April 18, 2017

Today, Theresa May announced that a General Election will be held on 8th June.

The choice is clear - a strong and stable Conservative government led by her or a weak and unstable coalition government led by Jeremy Corbyn. Unless the polls are miles out, Labour have no chance of winning outright but there's no room for complacency - they only need to gain a few seats to be able to do a deal with Nicola Sturgeon’s SNP and the Liberal Democrats.

Every vote for Theresa May and the Conservatives will strengthen Britain’s hand in the Brexit negotiations.

But this election isn’t just about Brexit. It’s also about Theresa May’s Plan for a Stronger Britain:

- building a stronger economy that rewards people who work hard and creates
secure and well-paid jobs;

- giving everyone a chance to get on in life by building enough affordable housing and making sure there is a good school place for every child; and

- building a more secure and united nation by taking action against the extremists who try to divide our country and standing up to the separatists who want to break it up.

Theresa May is a strong leader who puts the national interest first and gets things done. Now she needs your support to lead Britain through the Brexit negotiations and give Croydon and the country the certainty and stability we all need.

You can only get the strong leadership the country needs by voting for me
here in Croydon Central. Two years ago, I beat my Labour opponent by just 165 votes. A vote for any other party in this area risks seeing a Labour MP
elected, helping Jeremy Corbyn to become Prime Minister.

Representing my home town in Parliament for the last seven years has been the greatest honour of my life. In this job, you can’t please all of the people all of the time - every time I vote in the House of Commons, some of you will agree
with how I vote and some will disagree - but I hope you feel you have an MP who cares about our town, works hard, listens to both sides of every argument and tries his best to represent all the different communities that have made
Croydon their home.

I’m proud of what I’ve achieved:

- getting funding from the Government and the then Mayor of London Boris
Johnson to rebuild our town after the riots;

- helping to bring Westfield and Hammerson to Croydon;

- securing a fairer share of the national health and education budgets for our local hospital and schools; and

- convincing Croydon Council to drop plans to build travellers sites in our beautiful Green Belt

but there’s much more to do to make Croydon the place it could be, starting with sorting out our local rail service.

If you would like me to continue as your local MP and you’d prefer Theresa May to Jeremy Corbyn as your Prime Minister, I would be grateful for your support on 8th June.
