Consultation on compulsory recycling
16/07/2012 15:00:00

You may have seen reports in the local press that Croydon Council is asking residents for their views on plans to make recycling compulsory. The consultation launched last week and is open until noon on August 31st with the results being published in late autumn.

Most of us already recycle, which not only helps the environment but also helps to keep Council Tax bills down as it saves on landfill costs. The Council wants to know your views on whether it should take action against those who repeatedly refuse to do so even after receiving advice and support.

If you’d like to give your views on the proposals then you can let the Council know in a variety of ways:

• Visit the Council website

• Pick up a questionnaire from a library

• Request a questionnaire by calling Joanna Dixon on 020 8726 6000 ext 52136 or emailing joanna.dixon@croydon.gov.uk

• There are focus groups planned with organisations that help older people, less mobile people and people who have other health issues such as memory problems. Contact Joanna for information about those.

The proposals could in total save £200,000 a year on landfill costs, which could then be used to reduce Council Tax bills or support other services. For more information, visit the Croydon Council environment pages.

Commenting on my blog

I welcome readers' comments on my blog. Unfortunately, sometimes people go too far and use blog sites to post comments which are abusive or defamatory to third parties. For this reason, your comments, posted using the form on this page, don't appear until they have been moderated, to make sure that they don't cross that line.

My policy is that I will always let comments appear from people who disagree with me, in a spirit of promoting reasoned debate. However, I will not allow comments to be posted which are defamatory to someone else, or which are racist, sexist, homophobic or otherwise likely to fail a 'public decency' test.

Consequently, there may be some hours delay after you post your comment until it appears on the public pages.
