Labour councillor insults City workers
20/10/2008 17:53:00

At this evening's Cabinet meeting, Cllr Stuart Collins, the Deputy Leader of the Labour Group, branded "the fools in the City" responsible for the looming recession.

Whilst it's true that the senior executives of a number of banks have behaved recklessly, that's no excuse for insulting the hundreds of Croydon residents who work in the City. And whilst it's also true that this isn't just a British problem, Gordon Brown's decision to split the regulation of financial services between the Bank of England, the FSA and the Treasury clearly didn't help.

Presumably Cllr Collins' criticism is that the senior executives of some of our banks assumed the good times would never end and failed to build up sufficient capital for the bad times. Remind you of anyone?

Commenting on my blog

I welcome readers' comments on my blog. Unfortunately, sometimes people go too far and use blog sites to post comments which are abusive or defamatory to third parties. For this reason, your comments, posted using the form on this page, don't appear until they have been moderated, to make sure that they don't cross that line.

My policy is that I will always let comments appear from people who disagree with me, in a spirit of promoting reasoned debate. However, I will not allow comments to be posted which are defamatory to someone else, or which are racist, sexist, homophobic or otherwise likely to fail a 'public decency' test.

Consequently, there may be some hours delay after you post your comment until it appears on the public pages.
