Responding to Cllr Godfrey Part 2
16/02/2011 08:47:00

On Monday night, I responded to something Cllr Godfrey posted on his website about the Council's parking proposals. I posed him four questions:

Did he submit an objection to the proposals?

Did he write to all the residents in his ward affected by the proposals to alert them and encourage them to object if they didn't agree?

Did he meet with Cllr Thomas, the Cabinet member responsible, to lobby him to change his mind?

Why wasn't he at the meeting where the decision was taken?

He has answered two of the questions.

He doesn't think it was his job to tell his residents what the Council was proposing and encourage them to object if they didn't agree.

He did attend the meeting (my apologies for getting that wrong Tim). He just didn't think it was worth saying anything.

He was too embarassed to answer the first question but I have checked with the Council and the answer is he didn't bother to put in an objection.

It's all very well ranting and raving after the event but if you don't submit an objection, don't do anything to alert the people you are supposed to represent and don't bother to say a word at the meeting where the decision is taken, you are not doing your job as a local councillor.

Commenting on my blog

I welcome readers' comments on my blog. Unfortunately, sometimes people go too far and use blog sites to post comments which are abusive or defamatory to third parties. For this reason, your comments, posted using the form on this page, don't appear until they have been moderated, to make sure that they don't cross that line.

My policy is that I will always let comments appear from people who disagree with me, in a spirit of promoting reasoned debate. However, I will not allow comments to be posted which are defamatory to someone else, or which are racist, sexist, homophobic or otherwise likely to fail a 'public decency' test.

Consequently, there may be some hours delay after you post your comment until it appears on the public pages.
