Yet more planning madness
28/07/2008 17:53:00

Another depressing example of unelected Government officials overturning the decision of elected local councillors and the wishes of local residents - the Planning Inspectorate has allowed a developer to replace a detached house in Sefton Road in Ashburton ward with a block of ten flats.

My colleague Steve O'Connell, the London Assembly member for Croydon and Sutton, and I are collecting a petition to have planning decisions taken by local councillors. Councillors aren’t perfect but at least if you disagree with the decisions they make you can vote them out at the next election. If you would like to support our campaign you can sign the petition here.

Commenting on my blog

I welcome readers' comments on my blog. Unfortunately, sometimes people go too far and use blog sites to post comments which are abusive or defamatory to third parties. For this reason, your comments, posted using the form on this page, don't appear until they have been moderated, to make sure that they don't cross that line.

My policy is that I will always let comments appear from people who disagree with me, in a spirit of promoting reasoned debate. However, I will not allow comments to be posted which are defamatory to someone else, or which are racist, sexist, homophobic or otherwise likely to fail a 'public decency' test.

Consequently, there may be some hours delay after you post your comment until it appears on the public pages.
