Free parking in our district centres
03/02/2010 23:39:00

Conservative-controlled Croydon Council is introducing 30 minutes’ free on-street parking in our district centres from Monday 29th March.

And, for the third year running, it is freezing charges for the first two hours’ on- and off-street parking. Charges for parking for more than two hours will increase by about 10 per cent to discourage parking by commuters and keep bays free for shoppers.

Under the previous Labour administration, parking charges went up year after year after year. We’ve frozen them for three years in succession and now we have finally got the Council into a strong enough financial position that we have been able to introduce an element of free parking in places like Cherry Orchard Road, Lower Addiscombe Road and Portland Road. Hopefully that will encourage more people to use their district centres, which should be good news at a difficult time for local businesses.

Commenting on my blog

I welcome readers' comments on my blog. Unfortunately, sometimes people go too far and use blog sites to post comments which are abusive or defamatory to third parties. For this reason, your comments, posted using the form on this page, don't appear until they have been moderated, to make sure that they don't cross that line.

My policy is that I will always let comments appear from people who disagree with me, in a spirit of promoting reasoned debate. However, I will not allow comments to be posted which are defamatory to someone else, or which are racist, sexist, homophobic or otherwise likely to fail a 'public decency' test.

Consequently, there may be some hours delay after you post your comment until it appears on the public pages.
