Winners of ‘Parks to be proud of’ announced
07/01/2010 17:49:00

In a previous post, I talked about Conservative-controlled Croydon Council’s ‘Parks to be proud of’ initiative to make significant improvements to between six and nine parks across the borough (two or three in each of the three Parliamentary constituencies).

Residents were invited to choose which parks would benefit from £2.25 million of investment - the biggest single investment in our parks for decades - from a shortlist of 15 (five of which are in the Croydon Central constituency - Ashburton Park, Lloyd Park, Milne Park/Addington Vale, Parkfields and South Norwood Country Park).

Almost 9,000 people voted and Lloyd Park stood out as the clear overall favourite, scooping nearly 20% of the total vote. This is great news given the park’s central location and excellent transport links.

Alongside Lloyd Park, the other two parks in Croydon Central that will be getting funding are South Norwood Country Park and Milne Park/Addington Vale.

You will shortly have the chance to decide how the money that gets allocated to each park will be spent. Council officers are drawing up menus for each park, listing improvements that would be suitable for each site, and you can suggest further ideas. Once the menus are published, you can spend a ‘virtual budget’ on the things that you think would be of the greatest benefit. In March, all of these selections will be tallied up and analysed and the most popular choices will be the ones that the designers and parks engineers will look to turn into reality. Keep up to date with developments here.

Commenting on my blog

I welcome readers' comments on my blog. Unfortunately, sometimes people go too far and use blog sites to post comments which are abusive or defamatory to third parties. For this reason, your comments, posted using the form on this page, don't appear until they have been moderated, to make sure that they don't cross that line.

My policy is that I will always let comments appear from people who disagree with me, in a spirit of promoting reasoned debate. However, I will not allow comments to be posted which are defamatory to someone else, or which are racist, sexist, homophobic or otherwise likely to fail a 'public decency' test.

Consequently, there may be some hours delay after you post your comment until it appears on the public pages.
