Important U-turn from Croydon Council
27/04/2017 09:15:00

On Tuesday night, I attended the AGM of the Monks Orchard Residents Association. The main topic of discussion was our Labour Council’s planning policy – there’s a lot of anger about their proposals to build on Metropolitan Open Land around Shirley Oaks and create intensification zones around Shirley, where houses could be replaced by four-storey blocks of flats, in the roads around Shirley Library and the area opposite Trinity School. I’ll be giving evidence to the independent inspector who is examining the Croydon Plan shortly.

But there was a glimmer of hope last night. Labour councillor Paul Scott did a U turn and said he would now support a Neighbourhood Plan for Shirley. This wouldn’t be a way of blocking the required number of new homes, but it would mean residents not Croydon Council would decide where they would go.

Commenting on my blog

I welcome readers' comments on my blog. Unfortunately, sometimes people go too far and use blog sites to post comments which are abusive or defamatory to third parties. For this reason, your comments, posted using the form on this page, don't appear until they have been moderated, to make sure that they don't cross that line.

My policy is that I will always let comments appear from people who disagree with me, in a spirit of promoting reasoned debate. However, I will not allow comments to be posted which are defamatory to someone else, or which are racist, sexist, homophobic or otherwise likely to fail a 'public decency' test.

Consequently, there may be some hours delay after you post your comment until it appears on the public pages.
