Government provides £14m for refurbishment of Fairfield Halls and redevelopment of College Green.

Today the Government is announcing funding for Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs) in London and the South East.

Croydon is in the almost unique position of being in two LEPs – London and Coast to Capital.

The London LEP is receiving over £141 million to fund four projects across the capital

· Skills for Londoners Capital Fund - further support to London’s colleges and skills facilities to help Londoners gain a wide range of skills that employers need, including support for a construction academy scheme and offender learning investment.

· Supporting London’s Local Economies - projects on high streets and places of work, including support to create more affordable workspaces, and a crowd funding programme open to local community groups and social enterprises to deliver regeneration in their local areas.

· Unlocking Small Sites - a programme that seeks to release small sites for housing, harnessing the skills and enterprise of London’s small and medium developers and community-led housing groups.

· Air Quality Programme - improving London’s air quality through a commercial boiler scrappage scheme and further grant support to businesses, organisations and Business Improvement Districts to implement measures to reduce pollution from their operations.

Coast to Capital is receiving over £66 million and £14 million of that is coming to Croydon towards the refurbishment of the Fairfield Halls and redevelopment of College Green. There’s been no sign of anything happening since our Labour Council boarded the building up last year - hopefully this announcement should get things going.

Commenting on my blog

I welcome readers' comments on my blog. Unfortunately, sometimes people go too far and use blog sites to post comments which are abusive or defamatory to third parties. For this reason, your comments, posted using the form on this page, don't appear until they have been moderated, to make sure that they don't cross that line.

My policy is that I will always let comments appear from people who disagree with me, in a spirit of promoting reasoned debate. However, I will not allow comments to be posted which are defamatory to someone else, or which are racist, sexist, homophobic or otherwise likely to fail a 'public decency' test.

Consequently, there may be some hours delay after you post your comment until it appears on the public pages.
