Inter-faith commitment
19/11/2009 08:18:00

In recent years, Croydon has become a much more diverse place as people from all over the world have made their homes here. As a result, all of the world's major faiths are now practised in the borough.

Sadly, some people (including parts of the national media) persist in misunderstanding or misrepresenting the beliefs and practices of some of those faiths. To promote greater understanding and an inter-faith dialogue based on the fact that there is much more that unites us than divides us, the Council supports an inter-faith network, Faiths Together in Croydon.

Yesterday, as part of national Inter-Faith Week, the leaders of the borough's faith communities, together with the steering group of the inter-faith network, came together to sign a commitment to inter-faith working. Pictured are the Bishop of Croydon, Nick Baines, Imam Inamm-ul-Haq Malik, the Imam of Croydon Mosque & Islamic Centre, Dr Jagdish Sharma, the Chairman of Croydon Hindu Council, and the Reverend Dr Barry Goodwin, the Chair of Faiths Together in Croydon.

Commenting on my blog

I welcome readers' comments on my blog. Unfortunately, sometimes people go too far and use blog sites to post comments which are abusive or defamatory to third parties. For this reason, your comments, posted using the form on this page, don't appear until they have been moderated, to make sure that they don't cross that line.

My policy is that I will always let comments appear from people who disagree with me, in a spirit of promoting reasoned debate. However, I will not allow comments to be posted which are defamatory to someone else, or which are racist, sexist, homophobic or otherwise likely to fail a 'public decency' test.

Consequently, there may be some hours delay after you post your comment until it appears on the public pages.
