The Timebridge Centre needs your votes!
14/11/2014 09:58:00

The Timebridge Community Centre‘s Oaks and Acorns project has been shortlisted for the People’s Millions 2014 awards.

The People’s Millions is run by the Big Lottery Fund in partnership with ITV. The competition gives the public a chance to vote for the community projects they want to receive good cause funding. Oaks and Acorns could be one of 76 projects to receive up to £50,000 to inspire, involve and improve their local community, which would be great news for residents in Fieldway.

The aim of Oaks and Acorns is to get the older generation to mix and work with young people. An allotment will be set up to teach people how to grow fruit and vegetables and how to cook so they can come together and share the meal. Young people will be taught how to run a household budget, decorate a room, change a plug and deal with a blocked sink. The over 55s will be taught about exercise, nutrition, Skype and how to use the internet for shopping.

On Monday 24 November, Timebridge will go head-to-head with another charity to make a bid for viewers' support and win one of three regional awards. On Thursday 27 November, a bonus award will be announced for the runner-up with the most phone votes across the week.

Over the next few weeks the six finalists in each ITV region will be generating as much public support for their project as they can. Each project has an area on the People’s Millions website where they can share information about their projects and post photos, videos and other material that might encourage people to vote for them. I’ve just cast my vote by visiting www.peoplesmillions.org.uk and I hope you’ll do the same and spread the word among your friends and neighbours.
