600 tour Parliament
11/09/2014 14:02:00

I've given hundreds of tours since being elected in May 2010, but decided over the summer this year that I'd like to offer this service more widely. As a local MP, I spend Mondays to Thursdays working in one of the country's most beautiful buildings. But the Palace of Westminster isn't just for MPs - it is your Parliament.

That's why I’ve written to thousands of my constituents to offer them the chance to be given a guided tour of the buildings.

To date almost 600 have booked to go on the tours. They get to walk onto the floor of both the House of Commons and the House of Lords as well as seeing the state rooms and the historic Westminster Hall, where King Charles I was put on trial and in which Barack Obama, the Pope and Her Majesty the Queen have recently addressed both houses of Parliament.

Comments from residents:

‘We were honoured indeed to have Gavin direct our tour. It was undertaken in a manner that was highly informative and congenial and without pomp or ceremony, which was impressive, given the venue. Please thank him for giving us some of his valuable time. He is a man of the people and we are lucky to have him.’ – Michelle, Addiscombe.

‘I was highly impressed with the tour and also by the polite and courteous manner that Gavin treated all of us with. Thanks again for a brilliant and very informative afternoon.’ – Neville, Selsdon.

‘We thoroughly enjoyed the tour and Gavin was an extremely good tour guide. Having never met an MP before I was very impressed. He also dealt with visitors in a professional manner!’ – Susan, Addiscombe.

If you are interested in coming on a tour, please send me an email and I'll happily arrange a time for you to come: gavin.barwell.mp@parliament.uk.
