Labour's 'emergency budget' shock
07/05/2014 11:52:00

As if to highlight that Labour can’t be trusted with your money, its local leadership has announced that if they win control of the council on 22nd May, they will have an immediate ‘emergency budget’.

Given that they voted against the Council Tax freeze and £25 cash rebate when the budget was set recently, I dread to think what they would do if they were to get their hands on the levers of power again. Put council tax up again? Cancel the rebate? Whack up parking charges?

When Labour ran Croydon Council between 1994 and 2006 they more than doubled our bills, including two years when they increased by 36% and 27% respectively! You might think, “That’s a long time ago, it doesn’t mean they’ll do the same if they win on 22nd May”. But the people in charge of Croydon Labour Party today are the same people who were running the Council back in 2005 - they haven’t changed (indeed two of our current councillors – Sean Fitzsimmons and Mark Watson voted for the 27% increase).
