A candidate is never off duty (and neither is a parent)

A lesson today in how a candidate is never off duty. We took the kids to Kidspace, a new indoor adventure park at The Colonnades on the Purley Way (an excellent place for tiring out young children if you’ve got kids and haven’t tried it yet). I had managed to man-handle my two year-old, Sam, to the top of the main slide and was just trying to get my breath when the upper half of a mum emerged from a hole in the floor, took one look at me and said, “Aren’t you that MP bloke?”. Fair to say that neither of us were catching each other at our best. And as I tried to establish whether she was on the electoral roll in Croydon Central, Sam made a dive for the slide…
