Westfield/Hammerson scheme clears another hurdle

More good news - Eric Pickles, the Secretary of State for Communities & Local Government, has confirmed that he will not be calling in Westfield and Hammerson's planning application to transform Croydon town centre.

The application had already been approved by Croydon Council's Strategic Planning Committee and by the Mayor of London. Richard Ottaway, Steve Reed and I had written to Eric asking him not to call it in and, as the letter below confirms, he has duly obliged.

The way is now clear for Croydon Council to proceed with a Compulsory Purchase Order if the remaining landowners, who have no alternative scheme, refuse to sell to Westfield and Hammerson. Happy days...
