Free school meals for all infant school pupils
19/09/2013 11:39:00

Last week, the Deputy Prime Minister announced that the Government is to introduce free school meals for all infant school pupils.

In total, 13,783 Croydon pupils will benefit.

The long-term goal is for every primary school pupil to be able to sit down to a hot, healthy lunch with their classmates every day. The Government is starting with pupils in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 because teaching healthy habits young, and boosting attainment early, will bring the biggest benefits.

Over the course of a year, the average family spends about £400 per child on school meals. It's good to see the Government doing what it can, despite the financial challenges it faces, doing what it can to help hard-working families.

I don't agree with this as it already happens so why throw more money into it when the children you should be helping are the babies and pre school. There has been so many cuts made to the health care service.

That's one of the reasons our safeguarding system has failed so many babies and children one example on today's news a women jailed for 15 years for starving her 4 year old to death?

We should be spending money to provide support and help to prevent this from happening as it is becoming more and more common along with child abuse.

Also I work with youths and over the years have come across many that should be supported or put into care when their parents are on drugs or have no parenting skills or are still only young themselves.

I also work in a school and can say that the children that schools are concerned about are already given help and support to correct the issue of them not being fed?

Why are we taking funding from family centres and other services that have supported families with young children??

And also funding from youth clubs that support the youths?

Sorry just don't understand it ????
