Antisocial behaviour rates fall as communities pull together

It is great to hear reports that antisocial behaviour in Croydon has fallen by 24% over the past year.

Police Safer Neighbourhood Teams and Croydon Council have successfully obtained and implemented nine dispersal orders; 92 antisocial behaviour interventions for young people and six for adults; and closed nine premises.

Nowhere is this reduction being felt more than in Fieldway. Residents have been in touch with me, Croydon Council and the police about a growing number of cases of intimidation and harassment in Brierley, Elmside, Danebury, Fieldway and Foxcombe.

The Safer Croydon Partnership decided to impose a dispersal order on the Fieldway Estate. I fully supported this - it started on 25 April and runs to 24 October, giving police the power to:

Tell people in a group to disperse (either immediately or at a stated time and in a stated way).

Tell people who don’t live in the affected area to leave (either immediately or at a stated time and in a stated way).

Tell people who don’t live in the affected area not to return to the affected area or any part of it for such period (not exceeding 24 hours) from when the direction was given.

Fostering a partnership between the police, the Council and the public is key to tackling ASB.

It is a key issue that affects the quality of life of many of my constituents and I will be monitoring the situation very closely to see if the recent improvement is sustained.
