Works on the A23, Thornton Heath
19/09/2012 11:23:00

Now that the Olympics have passed, Transport for London has informed me that Thames Water has started planned works on the A23, Thornton Heath.

Road traffic management has been in place since the maintenance work started on Monday 10 September and they predict that it should be completed by Saturday 25 May.

I’m told that engineers will be working onsite Monday through to Saturday between the hours of 8am to 5pm as well as from 8.30am till 1pm on Sundays.

The most disruptive part of the works will require two way temporary traffic signals for seven days. This phase will occur during the autumn half term (Saturday 20 October to Monday 5 November) as traffic flows are lower. If possible, TfL advise you take an alternative route as traffic is certain to be disrupted.

I’ll be keeping a close eye on progress to ensure that the works do not unnecessarily overrun.

If you need more information or would like an update on construction progress then TfL asks you to contact their Streets Customer Services department on 0845 305 1234 or via the web at www.tfl.gov.uk/contact.

There is no such road as Thornton Heath Road. Also the road to which I think you are referring - London Road, Thornton Heath - is entirely within Croydon North constituency. Is it not a breach of the usual protocols for you to be involving yourself with it?

Many of Gavin's constituents use the A23 so he felt it important to inform them of possible issues they may encounter when traveling during the roadworks. Gavin has no influence over Thames Water's decisions for road maintenance. For those reasons, this is therefore an informative post and not a breach of any protocol.
