Croydon conservation area consultation launched
11/08/2012 15:52:00

Croydon Council is currently consulting on a draft 'Conservation Area General Guidance' document that will apply to all of Croydon’s 21 conservation areas and draft 'Conservation Area Appraisal and Management Plans' that will focus on the Chatsworth Road and Wellesley Road (North) Conservation Areas (plus a couple from outside my constituency).

Under the 1990 Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act, a Conservation Area is an area of special architectural or historic interest, the character and appearance of which is desirable to preserve and enhance.

The draft 'Conservation Area General Guidance' is important as it provides general guidance for development in Conservation Areas and, among other things, outlines the process of applying for planning consent in those areas.

The draft 'Conservation Area Appraisals and Management Plans' outline the special character of the Conservation Areas and provide additional guidance for development.

How to view the documents:

• Online at www.croydon.gov.uk/caamps.

• At all Croydon libraries.

• At a drop-in event on the 6th September from 13:00-16:00 and 17:00-20:00 at the Croydon Town Hall, Katherine Street, Croydon, CR9 3JS

You can add your thoughts to the consultation in one of the following ways:

• By email: LDF@croydon.gov.uk

• By post: Spatial Planning, 18th Floor, Taberner House, Park Lane, Croydon CR0 1JT

• In writing at the drop-in event on the 6th September.

The deadline for receipt of comments is Friday 28th September.

All comments and suggested amendments to the documents will be considered by the Council for the final documents, which are due to be adopted in early 2013.

This consultation is part of a process currently being undertaken by the Council to write and update Conservation Area Appraisal and Management Plans (CAAMPs) for all of Croydon’s Conservation areas. It is intended that consultations for other CAAMPs will take place over the next two years.

If you would like to find out more about the project or about Conservation Areas in Croydon, please contact: Spatial Planning, 18th Floor, Taberner House, Park Lane, Croydon CR0 1JT or email: spatial.planning@croydon.gov.uk, Tel/typetalk: 020 8407 1385.
