Prime Minister announces National Dementia Challenge
26/03/2012 23:52:00

Great to see the Prime Minister announce measures to make the UK a world leader in dementia care and research today and in particular a pledge to double dementia research by 2015.

I lost my father to Alzheimer's so this is an issue close to my heart but it is also one that affects a growing number of people - one quarter of hospital beds are occupied by someone with dementia and in less than ten years, as we all live longer lives, the number of people with the condition will be over one million.

Very much agree with what you say. It's also important that the worry a lot of dementia sufferers and their families have about financing care is removed. I hope you will support the Dilnot Committee's recommendations in this connection. This is too important an issue to be kicked into the long grass or to become the subject of party political bickering.
