A warning of where we could end up if we don't start living within our means
14/03/2012 07:48:00

This video by the Sunday Times Economics Editor, David Smith, for BBC Radio 4's Broadcasting House, which sets out what a Greek-style austerity programme would look like in Britain, is incredibly powerful.

As well as warning us what the consequences could be if we don't start living within our means - and reminding us how lucky we are that the Liberal Democrats and some in the Labour Party didn't succeed in taking us into the Euro - it also raises questions about whether what Greece is being asked to do is actually politically deliverable.

I'll be showing it at the public meeting I have organised at 8pm on Friday night at Croydon Town Hall to discuss the Government's deficit reduction programme.

Yep... good thing we're not in the Euro. But we're still in the EU, and that's costing us.

It was Tory Edward Heath that got us into that one.
