More money for the Met
31/01/2012 19:35:00

The Government has announced an additional £90 million for the Metropolitan Police in 2012/13 in recognition of the demands of policing the Olympics and the Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

Boris Johnson and many London MPs, myself included, have been making the case that more money was required to protect the frontline and it's great to see that Ministers have listened.

I am glad that this has happened. However, how is it going to be administered? Long before Gavin became MP (glad that he did), he gave us in New Addington a chance to discuss with him Croydon being an exceptional place due to having the Home Office in Wellesley Road. Are we going to have extra funding to cope with what could be a problem?

More money? But six fewer sergeants, and now fewer officers, in Croydon.

Explain how that equation works, Gav.
