Boris Johson has announced that he is cutting the Greater London Authority element of our Council Tax bills by 1 per cent, having frozen it for his first three years.
At a time when everyone's feeling the squeeze, it's fantastic to have a Mayor who is running a tight ship and reducing the amount we are all asked to pay. Ken Livingstone more than doubled the Council Tax during his eight years at City Hall. If he had been re-elected in 2008 and carried on as before, someone living in a Band D property would have paid an extra £445.05.
The choice next May really couldn't be clearer. And to give him credit, Ken admits he - back in 2010, he told Evening Standard readers "I am going to increase your taxes".
