First 12-coach Thameslink services start tomorrow
11/12/2011 06:50:00

The first 12-coach services to run on the Thameslink route start tomorrow, adding 3,200 seats in the morning and evening peaks - good news for commuters fed up with paying a fortune for their travelcards and then having to stand most nights. This is the first fruit of the significant investment the Government is making in Thameslink and other rail services in south London.

Unfortunately for Croydon to London commuters, the 08:54 ECR departure is the only morning peak train being upgraded to 12 carriages (plus a single evening return journey). I have used this train often - 8 carriages is actually OK. A real problem is reliability on the route, especially with trains earlier in the peak - most of which chug their way via Crystal Palace, not London Bridge and often run late.

As far as I know, they are just shifting carriages around at this stage. A bit of a gimmick really whilst you can still turn up to see a 4 carriage train on this route. Nothing really new until Siemens deliver in 2015-2018, I fear.
