A severe case of amnesia

My Labour opponent, Gerry Ryan, is in The Advertiser today calling on the Council to "agree to fund the Fairfield with an annual revenue grant".

When Labour took control of Croydon Council in 1994/5, Fairfield received an annual revenue grant of £1,343,000. By the time he and his colleagues were voted out, they had reduced that to zero.

I agree with him that Fairfield needs support from the Council and this year we are providing £200,000 for works to the building but we can't be as generous as we would like because of the financial mess we have inherited - and he would have a lot more credibility on this issue if he had delivered in office what he is arguing for now.
