Local housing associations helping their tenants find work
30/06/2011 22:42:00

This evening, I attended the awards ceremony for a job seeking skills programme run by five local housing associations – Amicus Horizon, Viridian, CCHA, Hastoe and L&Q – in partnership with the recruitment experts Hays.

There were some really moving speeches by tenants who had completed the programme about how it had put them back in touch with the world of work and given them more confidence and a sense of self-worth. I know from my own experience of setting up a Job Club how important an informal support network can be in addition to training in interview skills and how to write a good CV and covering letter.

It's great to see local housing associations working with the private sector and delivering these additional services to their tenants. I very much look forward to attending further ceremonies in future years.
