Today, I opened a new development of Council homes in Alwyn Close in New Addington.
One of the most common problems that people ask me to help with is overcrowded or otherwise unsuitable accommodation. There is a huge waiting list for affordable housing - so huge that unless you are entitled to some priority, the Council no longer allow you on to the list.
So it's great to see that, unlike most other councils and unlike the previous Labour administration at the Town Hall, the current Conservative administration has started building Council homes again.
And these aren't small one-bedroom flats - they are family homes and built to the highest environmental standards with good landscaping. Many thanks to the officers in the housing department, the contractor Mulalley and in particular Cllr Dudley Mead who have together made this possible.
