This morning, I visited John Ruskin College.
The College has recently received a positive Ofsted inspection, which recognised that while there remain areas for further improvement:
"throughout 2010/11...and especially since the arrival of a new
principal, determined efforts have been made to raise standards. Indeed,
managers’ actions over the last year have led to signficant improvements in students’ achievements".
"Teaching and learning are good and inspectors observed examples of
outstanding practice. Teaching has improved since the previous inspection and this has had a demonstrable impact on students’ achievements".
The College recently secured a £1.2 million grant from the Government for building improvement works and it was good to see the changes that have been made since my last visit and the further changes planned over the summer break., including a spa training facility, new broadcasting studio and nursery training facility.
The recent Woolf Review identified the importance of vocational education and it's encouraging to see one of the key providers in the constituency moving in the right direction.
