I was shocked this morning to learn of the death of Sir Simon Milton, the Deputy Mayor of London.
I have known Simon for many years, first as an inspirational Leader of Westminster City Council then as Chairman of the Local Government Association and more recently as Deputy Mayor and Chief of Staff to Boris Johnson. He played a key role in Boris’ administration, particularly in regard to planning – towards the end of last year, he was the headline speaker at the Develop Croydon conference - and will be sorely missed. He was widely admired across the political spectrum and it is a tragedy that he has been taken away from us so young. You can watch Boris' tribute to him here.
