This morning, I am teaching Pythagoras theorem to a Year 8 class at Addington High as part of Teach First week. Teach First is a charity that aims to turn bright graduates into inspirational teachers in schools in parts of the country that need them most. The Coalition Government is providing funding to double its size. I am delighted to show my support for the fantastic work they do and looking forward to sharing my passion for maths with Class 8xy1.
UPDATE: Ok, that was much more nerve racking than speaking in the House of Commons but I absolutely loved it! Thanks to 8xy1, who were bright and well behaved (the question I got wrong at the end just goes to illustrate the point I was making earlier that if you write down each stage of your calculations you are less likely to make a mistake than if you work everything out in your head!); to Mr Murrills for his help planning the lesson; and to Teach First for arranging everything. A great experience and something I would like to do more of in the future.
