Making sure young people have the financial skills they need
01/02/2011 12:49:00

Today, I met Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis of breakfast television fame (not to be confused with former newsreader Martyn Lewis).

Martin was the guest speaker at the launch of the new All-Party Parliamentary Group for Financial Education for Young People, which I have joined. Nearly six million people receive his weekly email full of money saving tips and, judging by the number of emails I received asking me to join the group, lots of constituents are avid followers.

With high levels of government and personal debt, it is more important than ever that we bring up a generation of financially literate young people who are able to deal with the financial challenges they will face as adults, whether it’s choosing financial products or planning for a secure financial future. The All Party Group will look at what changes are needed to ensure they have the necessary skills.

You can hear what Martin had to say to us here.
