Today was the day of my sponsored walk around the boundaries of the constituency to raise money for the Croydon branch of the Alzheimer's Society (a cause very close to my heart as I lost my father to Alzheirmer's a few years ago).
A big thank you to John Addo; Cllr Sara Bashford; Cllr Richard Chatterjee; Cllr Lindsay Frost and his daughter Holly; Dani Gonek; Peter Gray; Adam Kellett; Rob King; Cllr Janet Marshall; Milan Patel; Cllr Helen Pollard and her children Nicholas and Antonia; Cllr Andrew Price; Patrick Ratnaraja; Cllr Sue Winborn and her husband Alan; my Mum, Karen and the kids and my friend Peter for keeping me company along the way and in particular to my brother and my best friend who did the full 16 odd miles with me.
Thanks too to everyone who sponsored me. In total I raised just short of £4,800 - much more than I thought I would manage when I came up with the idea.
It was actually a lot easier than I expected, although I may feel differently in the morning. We were certainly very lucky with the weather - it would have been a much less pleasant experience in the pouring rain last weekend.
More than anything it was a reminder of how lucky I am to have been selected as a Parliamentary Candidate in the area in which I grew up. The route around the boundaries of the constituency took me within a stone's throw of the homes of four of my closest friends plus lots of old haunts.
All in all, a great experience. I intend to make it an annual event, raising money for different local charities each year.
