A winter wonderland?
03/12/2010 18:32:00

My children may love the snow but for many people the disruption to their lives is not a cause for celebration. Over the last four days, I've received lots of emails and calls about the state of the roads, delayed or cancelled train and bus services and school closures.

I know how frustrating it can be when everything grinds to a halt but I’d like to say a few words in defence of the Council officers who have worked all hours to try to keep the roads clear. First, the snowfall has been exceptionally heavy and much of it occurred during rush hour, which makes it much harder for the gritters to do their job. Second, they have kept me very well informed and given me a prompt response whenever I have contacted them on behalf of a constituent.

Hopefully, with a thaw predicted tomorrow morning things will improve but do contact me to make me aware of any problems.
