Supporting small business
07/10/2010 16:38:00

This morning, I opened the We Mean Business exhibition, organised by the Croydon branch of the Federation of Small Businesses, at Fairfield Halls. Reducing public spending to tackle the deficit is inevitably going to mean some people losing their jobs and the Government is relying on growth in the private sector to provide new jobs for those people. That growth is going to be driven by new business start ups and small businesses expanding, which is why the Government is cutting the small companies rate of corporation tax and alleviating the worst effects of Labour's proposed increase in employer's National Insurance contributions.

It was great to meet a significant number of businesses based in the constituency who were exhibiting at the event but there were also businesses from much further afield, emphasising Croydon's status as an economic hub for south London and the near South East.
