David Milliband's decision to step down from Shadow Cabinet is a major blow to Labour
I can understand David Milliband's decision to step down from the Shadow Cabinet but there is no getting away from the fact that it is a major blow to Labour. One of their most able MPs has retired to the backbenches, perhaps for good, at the age of 45.
With other former senior Ministers like Jack Straw and Alistair Darling also standing down, the new Shadow Cabinet is going to have a lot of new faces. In one sense, that may be good news as it will help to distance the new team from the previous government (though the fact that their new leader was a senior adviser or Minister throughout won't help that cause). But it will also mean that it will lack experience and faces that the public recognise.
