Victory for Addiscombe residents
26/03/2008 21:56:00

This evening the Council approved the designation of the East India estate, covering Canning Road, Clyde Road, Elgin Road, Havelock Road, Outram Road, Mulberry Lane and Ashburton Road, as a conservation area, thereby protecting it from the kind of insensitive development that has begun to change its character in recent years.

This decision is evidence of the change in the Council's planning policies under a Conservative administration (the previous Labour administration didn't designate a single conservation area in 12 years) and is the result of months of lobbying by the Canning & Clyde Road and HOME Residents' Associations supported by local councillors Maria Garcia, Russell Jackson and Andrew Price. I've been delighted to support them since getting selected just over a month ago but tonight was very much a victory for them.
