...which translates as "To everyone, Onam wishes". It was my pleasure to be a guest of the Kerala Welfare and Cultural Association at the Fairfield Halls this afternoon as they celebrated the festival of Onam. Much is rightly said about the importance of people who chose to come and live in the UK integrating into our society but it is equally important that they pass on to their children their culture and traditions because that is part of who they are. It was great to watch some traditional Indian dances - the vibrant costumes were certainly a welcome contrast to a very grey August - and to hand out some prizes to young members of the community who have studied hard.
