Late night sittings should be a thing of the past
07/07/2010 07:50:00

Last night's debate on the Finance Bill ended about 2.30 in the morning. Does anyone seriously believe that carrying on debates to this time in the morning serves any useful purpose? I went in to the Chamber to listen to the wind-up speeches. Labour's Angela Eagle was at the despatch box but I couldn't tell you what she was saying because there were so many other conversations going on I couldn't hear a word she was saying. Late night sitting like this are now very rare but they should be a thing of the past altogether.
