For nearly two years now, I have been campaigning for the Government to implement the recommendations of the Parliamentary Ombudsman published in her report on the Government's handling of Equitable Life.
The Conservative Party put sustained pressure on the previous Government to accept these recommendations and promised that if it refused to do so and the Conservative Party formed a government after the General Election it would do so. I was delighted to see that promise honoured in the Queen's Speech, which said that legislation will be introduced to "implement the Government’s commitment to make fair and transparent payments to Equitable Life policyholders". Finally these people are going to get justice. Sadly, because of the previous Government's failure to act it will come too late for some.
