Action on fuel prices
07/07/2008 12:13:00

Yesterday, Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne unveiled a plan to soften the impact of future fuel price rises on families.

Called the Fair Fuel Stabiliser, the idea is that fuel duties would reduce when fuel prices go up and vice versa.

If the Government had introduced this measure in the last Budget, fuel would now be 5p a litre cheaper, reducing the cost of filling up a typical family car like a Ford Mondeo by £3.50.

You can see the detailed proposals and take part in the consultation here.
