Delivered nearly half of the constituency again today, which means we have done everything we planned to do by close of play today (plus one unplannned project - calling on known Andrew Pelling supporters for an in depth conversation to see if we can get them back onside, which has been very successful) already. We've therefore had to come up with an extra project for today, about which more tonight, and as I type my agent is trying to source the necessary materials.
One lovely moment delivering along Long Lane. A young boy was riding past me on his bike, looked up at me and obviously recognised me without knowing exactly who I was, pulled up and asked, "Are you the capital of Croydon?". Now there's a job to apply for if things don't go my way on Thursday...
Nationally, David Cameron launched our contract for young people, which includes:
- introducing a National Citizen Service – a programme for 16 year-olds to give them a chance to develop the skills needed to be active and responsible citizens, mix with people from different backgrounds and start getting involved in their communities;
- establishing an Olympic-style school sports competition to give every young person at school or college an opportunity to play competitive sport and help secure a lasting legacy from London 2012; and
- focusing Home Office support on interventions like mentoring by expert voluntary groups to tackle youth and knife crime in the 100 most deprived communities across the country.
