There is a letter in today's Croydon Guardian from Andrew Pelling supporter Elizabeth Chow attacking Jayne Laville, one of our candidate's for Fieldway.
Jayne has Asperger syndrome and anxiety/depression. She had written to the Guardian the previous week in response to claims that the Conservative Party didn't support Andrew Pelling when he suffered from depression, pointing out how the party has supported her.
Mrs Chow first suggests that people with Asperger's shouldn't aspire to serve their local community, then that we only selected Jayne to cover up for the way we treated Andrew Pelling and finally that we have cynically selected Jayne in a ward that we are unlikely to win.
With regard to the last point, we put Jayne on our approved candidates list, meaning she was eligible to apply for any ward, but she chose to only apply for Fieldway because she wants to represent the area where she lives.
With regard to the first two points, Mrs Chow may feel that people with conditions like Asperger's have nothing to offer but that says more about her than about them. All in all, one of the most unpleasant letters the Guardian I have ever read.
