You call this "doing politics differently"?
30/04/2010 11:58:00

This morning I was shown a copy of Andrew Pelling's leaflet, which claims that we are in third place "so now it's either New Labour or Andrew Pelling".

The leaflet offers no evidence to support this claim and it is of course complete nonsense - it's actually a two horse race between me and Labour candidate Gerry Ryan. Don't take my word for it - I am slightly biased after all. Look at the poster display around the constituency, the bookies' odds or the predictions of the London Communications Agency or listen to The Croydon Advertiser, which has said “one thing nobody with any modicum of political knowledge is saying is that [Andrew] has any real chance of winning”.

Andrew is an intelligent man so I am sure he doesn't for a moment believe this nonsense. Deliberately misleading people to try to boost your vote is pretty desperate and far from "doing politics differently" it is the kind of tactics we see from the Liberal Democrats in most Parliamentary by-elections. It is very sad to see someone of Andrew's talent ending his political career in this way.
