Thursday 29th April - 7 days to polling day
30/04/2010 00:10:00

Another day spent calling on potential Conservative supporters who vote by post, this time in Addiscombe and Shirley.

At lunchtime we had a hustings meeting at Edenham School. They had a secret ballot afterwards and I am pleased to say that I topped the poll with nearly 60% of the vote with Gerry Ryan, my Labour opponent, just ahead of Peter Lambell from the Liberal Democrats - hopefully a good omen for next week.

This evening, managed to catch most of the third leaders' debate. I thought this was Cameron's best performance by some distance. Clegg was much less impressive than in the previous debates and came unstuck on his plans for an amnesty for illegal immigrants. Brown - unsurprisingly given the last 24 hours - looked like a beaten man. There was another one of his weird smiles during his summing up when he was trying to scare people about the consequences of voting Conservative.
