Labour councillors out of tune with parents' aspirations...and their own Government
Last night, Labour councillors demonstrated that they are out of tune with parents' aspirations when it comes to standards in our schools.
Today it emerges that they are out of tune with their own Government too. Secretary of State for Children, Schools & Families has published a list of 638 schools, 5 of them from Croydon, where less than 30 per cent of pupils achieved 5A* to C passes including Maths and English at GCSE last year and said that the Government will intervene if councils don't take action to improve them. Conservative-controlled Croydon Council agreed its plans last night - and they were opposed by Labour councillors, who wanted to know what the rush was.
Clearly, Mr Balls needs to call Cllr Newman in for a lesson or two...
