Minister opens Innovation Centre in central Croydon to support budding entrepreneurs
Yesterday I was delighted to be joined by Anna Soubry MP, Minister for Small Business, Industry and Enterprise, as she officially opened Sussex Innovation – Croydon.
This new Innovation Centre in Croydon builds on the success of the existing Sussex Innovation Centre at the University of Sussex, which describes itself as a “business incubator” and has helped create around 50 multi-million-pound businesses in the South East over the past 20 years.
The site, located at ONE Croydon on Addiscombe Road, will provide a base for up to 30 high-growth potential companies with over 300 employees and support more than 100 local businesses through its network. Over the next three years, Sussex Innovation anticipate that the tenants will generate £6 million in turnover and raise £1 million in investment.
It can play a crucial part in helping to ensure we have a diverse and therefore robust local economy that isn’t just dependent on retail and a few large employers. In addition, I hope access to business experts will help local people with talent and a great idea to realise their ambitions and build their own business.
