Planning application for 62 and 64 Woodmere Avenue

I've written to residents around Woodmere Avenue after hearing about the shocking result of Croydon Council’s Planning Committee last week.

The Committee met to discuss the application for the erection of 5 three bedroom detached houses and the formation of car access following the demolition of 60a Woodmere Avenue. I joined Monks Orchard Residents’ Association and 113 residents in formally objecting to the application.

Sadly, I was not able to speak on their behalf at the meeting because our Labour Council has banned MPs from speaking on all but the largest planning applications. So much for their commitment, before the council elections, to openness and transparency.

The Conservatives on the Planning Committee voted to turn down the application as did one brave Labour Councillor; the remaining Labour Councillors voted en bloc to approve it.

I am sorry that our voices were ignored by Croydon Council but I wanted to pay tribute to the local residents that have tried to resist over-development of this site.
