Yesterday, I tendered my resignation as a Governor of the Whitgift Foundation and Chairman of the Governors of Trinity School with effect from the end of this school term.
I've enjoyed my time as a Governor immensely and am particularly proud to have played a very small part in the progress Trinity has made under its outstanding Headmaster Mark Bishop. It's been great to give something back to a school to which I owe so much.
But having been re-elected on 7th May and promoted in last week's reshuffle, I need to reduce some of my other commitments. I'm obviously honoured to have been given a more senior role in the Government, but providing a first-class service to my constituents is my top priority and I need to make sure I have the time to do that.
I wish both the school and the Foundation all the best for the future and I'll still be working closely with the latter as the Foundation has a key role to play in making sure the redevelopment of the Whitgift Centre gets underway as soon as possible.
