Police in Croydon are appealing for witnesses and information following an aggravated burglary in Ashburton.
The incident happened at approximately 21:00hrs on Thursday, 22 January, at the address in Shirley Park Road.
Three suspects have broken into the house through the kitchen window. They have then assaulted the occupants - a couple in their late 70s - punching the man in the face and forcing his wife upstairs, where they held a cloth over her mouth to stop her screaming out.
They have then searched the house and stolen several thousand pounds worth of Asian gold and jewellery, cash and their mobile phones before making off. When the suspects had left, the victims called their son, who then called police. Two of the suspects are described as white men, with the third described as mixed-race.
Detectives from Croydon’s Burglary Squad are investigating the incident and are appealing for anyone who may have seen anything or anyone acting suspiciously in the area to contact them.
This has understandably left the victims extremely shaken up and local police are determined to try and identify who is responsible. I’d urge anyone who might have seen or heard anything unusual or suspicious in the area to get in touch with us, however insignificant you think the information may be - it could help us to solve this case.
Anyone with information is asked to call DC Emma Crowley at Croydon CID via 101 or contact Crimestoppers, which is anonymous on 0800 555 111.
