Major changes to rail services to London Bridge
20/12/2014 10:55:00

From tomorrow, there will be major changes to rail services to London Bridge as vital but very disruptive work takes place to the track that will in a few years’ time allow a much improved service.

From 20th December to 4th January there will be no Southern or Thameslink services to or from London Bridge.

From 5th January 2015 to January 2018 there will be no Bedford to Brighton cross-London Thameslink trains to or from London Bridge. A reduced off-peak service will run between Brighton and London Bridge and a very limited service will run in the peak.

For more information see here.

In the past it was handy to go to London Bridge (via Thameslink) and then wait on the same platform for the next train which would take you to Charing Cross. Avoiding the tube, this was often the most comfortable way to get to central London. It's now history because during these works Charing Cross bound trains are not stopping at London Bridge, and East Croydon to London Bridge trains are going to be a rarity.

For London Bridge/Charing Cross, people may wish to consider using the Hayes line from Elmers End (via tram) or West Wickham (if you're at the far end of Shirley). Trains, though slow, alternate between Charing Cross (except Sundays) and Canon Street (via London Bridge). Guaranteed a seat too!
